Today I’m going to talk about something that only the luckiest ones don’t care about. Most of the girls, but also boys, during their adolescence experienced some form of acne, from the very light to the very severe. The psychological effects of having acne could be intense, especially if the problem persists for a long period of time. It seems like there’s no end for this. And we suffer a lot, our face is all red and the pain sometimes is very annoying. We’re full of swelling and we avoid every kind of surface that reflects our figure. The point is that even when we’re adult we can have this kind of problem. There are of course several reasons and causes for acne and we have to remind that every girl/boy is different from the other and therefore the remedies are not the same for everyone.
I know what I’m talking about, because I’m facing this problem right now, again. I know which is the cause of my type of acne, and I’m quite happy because I know there’s a remedy and it works. My path has been very long and I tried EVERYTHING to alleviate pain, signs, scars. I had my first episode three years ago, for the first time in my life. I never had acne before that moment, also when I was at the high school. So, at the beginning has been very difficult to accept. Therefore I would like to give you some advices on the basis of my experience. First of all I suggest you not to search homemade remedies on the internet, or buy medicines without a prescription from your doctor. Don’t follow the same therapy of your friends or someone you found online, because, as I said before, we’re all different. So, see a specialist.
In this regard I also have to specify that you need to find one that you like instinctively. You have to feel empathy with that specialist: if you don’t like the first, see a second. And if you don’t like the second, go for a third. I’m telling you this because I saw the first dermatologist and I was like “Ok, let’s try”. So I did what he suggested me. No results at all. The second try: a complete disaster. She gave me a gel called “Mask Plus Gel” to apply every night before going to bed.
After two days I was completely burnt and peeled and red. My face was swollen like a balloon and I was not able to smile or express my emotions because of the incredible pain. My skin was absolutely shriveled. I had to rehydrate my skin for more than a week, applying tons of the heaviest moisturizer I could possibly found. So, CHOSE YOUR SPECIALIST.
Far from giving you advices on what medical products to use in case you have acne, I’ll give you some tips on cosmetic products I tested on my face. They work (at least on my skin).
Premise: Don’t squeeze out your pimples! Keep your skin clean. Wash your hands before washing your face.
When pimples dry out (after a very looooong time), we’re all happy because the monsters are gone, BUT what remains is usually a spot, more or less dark, more or less red. And maybe also a scar. This kind of spots, as the sun spots or more generally discolorations, are very difficult to battle and the process of evening out the skin is very long. I also suggest you to begin this kind of “therapy” during winter time, when the sun shines less and the intensity of sunbeams is lighter. That’s because sun light worsen the appearance of spots, especially when they’re caused by acne.
So, the first advice I feel to give you is to protect your skin when you go out during the day, using an SPF 30 or 50. You can find also foundations or moisturizers with these kind of SPF.
What I’m trying in these days is the Clearly Corrective White Regimen by Kihel’s.
These products are amazing. I really feel my skin smoother, clearer, brighter, more compact. Just after the first application. By the fact that the complete line is not really cheap (in Italy about 200 Euros), I started with the Purifying Foaming Cleanser, the Skin Brightening Exfoliator (which won the Beauty Elle Awards in 2014), and the Clearly Corrective Dark spot Solution.
Here is the thing: you have to wash your face with the Cleanser, apply the Dark spot Solution twice a day (in the morning and before going to bed), and use the Exfoliator on alternate days. My routine is this: Morning – Cleanser, Dark Spot, moisturizer, makeup. Evening – Cleanser, Exfoliator, Dark Spot, moisturizer.
There is also another product for skin spots that is very famous (but I’ve never had the courage to buy it): Elicina. Elicina is a cream made by the drool of snails. It is said to be very effective in lightening spots, but I haven’t tried it yet. (Will you try it?)
Another product I can suggest you is Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Corrector. I used it for a while and I saw that my skin was getting better, and the spots were lightening. I think it’s a valid alternative to Kiehl’s products.
Some of my friends tried the Caudalie Vinoperfect and they told me that it doesn’t guarantee fast results as Kiehl’s or Clinique and they had to wait about two months to see some improvement. I mean, I think it depends also from the entity of your spots and the type of your skin.
Girls, this is my experience and these are my suggestions. Please remember that every skin is different from the other and what works for me will not necessarily work for you. The best thing you can do is try different products and find your own. You have to be patient and don’t lose heart. Be confident, and in the worst moments, when someone else laugh at you and your acne, think that your pimples sooner or later will go away (for sure), but none will give them another brain. SMILE!
