And finally the Opera seems to attract public interest again. Not for the Opera itself, of course, but because of some special hosts.

We all know the story, someone have probably read the original in the book “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas fils, from which is the work of Giuseppe Verdi, someone may have seen the modern re-adaptation in the movie “Moulin Rouge”. We all heard Amami Alfredo once in our life, the melodies are not unknown, even for all the times we watched Julia Roberts moved in tears in her red dress when Richard Gere brings her to the Opera for the first time.
Valentino commented, “Unfortunately, young people are not interested in opera today. They do not realize that they are missing something that can transport you to another world. “
And perhaps it needed his name and his genius for our generation to start talking about it again.
It needed the impeccable taste of his beautiful mind in designing the outfits of Violetta. It needed the ability of his successors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli in conceiving the choir robes and Flora’s dress. It needed Giancarlo Giammetti persuading Sofia Coppola to give her interpretation of the story. It needed the beautiful, powerful and youthful voice of the soprano Francesca Dotto to top it all. It needed the passion and love of the emperor Valentino for the Opera for our generation of millennials to pay attention to one of the highest art forms of all time. Everything, it seems, remaining as close as possible to the classicism and elegance that distinguish the Opera itself, without falling into a poor modern reinterpretation of the same.
Since yesterday La Traviata is playing at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome where it’ll remain for another 15 performances until June 30th. Obviously each date is already sold out. We just have to hope for a replica or maybe to be able to watch it comfortably at home on the big screen. Although, let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be the same thing as wearing a fine dress and sit in a less comfortable seat of an elegant theater to enjoy the experience to the fullest.
We thank the emperor for having given back to Opera the attention it deserves.
